Dogs and the Law - Advanced
The module is designed for professionals working with canines
in dog training and behaviour occupations including the veterinary,
instructional, and policing or welfare sectors.
Especially those who wish to learn evidence compilation
for court and client-centred reports. Its is delivered in
two separate sections one concentrating on dog law, evidence
compilation and the second on all dog behaviour problems and
how one constructs a report for the client.
Course aims
To gain an understanding of dog law, evidence structure and
writing. To learn how to construct effectively and write concise
canine behaviour reports professionally. Safety, your responsibilities,
insurance
The dog law, evidence structure and behaviour reports concerning
domestic pet dogs. To learn practised report styles to affect
behaviour outcomes and or use for criminal or civil cases.
Use the student's limited professional experience and the
DVD client-based cases studies to explore a range of all dog
behaviours for behaviour report writing
To give the student a general grasp of dog law
To learn how to interview a client witness for evidence compilation
To enable the student to discuss and write reformation or
training strategies for all dog behaviour in the home and
or other locations.
To learn detective information collation in behaviour.
Understand that there is an array of laws concerning canines
and specific proscribed dogs within those laws.
Have a basic understanding of why certain dog behaviours develop
Understand that the dog's location, the family make-up and
environment affect dog behaviour
Understand that what you write is critical to a criminal civil
case outcome

solutions for coping with dog behaviour

when to refer to more experienced professionals especially
in court cases
Develop procedures for behaviour reports concerning the main
problem presented
Examine a range of equipment and how that is explained for
use in a written form
Develop your skills to persuade reluctant clients to modify
their view on how a dog should be cared for in context to
their relationship
Develop a written explanation style for the dog owner's needs
The 2-day residential workshop is an intensive highly-structured
programme that builds on the student's limited professional
experience investigated during phase 1. A range of real life
DVD based case studies will be used to take the student through
the client-professional consultation process. A range of general
dog behaviour cases for report writing purposes.
