Essential skills in puppy training

Phase 1

This is delivered as a distance learning phase. This includes initial work based analysis and research. This also provides you with an oportunity to meet puppy owners and to interview them. You are also required to conduct secondary research via the internet, library and other sources such as books and journals on specific equipment used for the training and control of dogs. Please note that you must allow a minimum of six weeks study of phase 1 before your workshop date (Phase 2).

Phase 2

A one day work shop at our training centre. During this phase we supply puppies along with thier owners for training and hands on work with you. Refreshments including a buffet lunch is provided.

This phase also includes:

  • Understand the basics of managing puppy training courses

  • Appraise and assess the effectiveness of equipment designed for puppy training

  • Human and canine body language

  • Use of equipment for controlling puppies

  • Hands-on work with puppies

  • Review and discussion sessions include video-taped handling and playback analysis

  • One-to-one and group activities for peer discussion

  • Equipment & training tool box surprise

  • Assessing puppies in regard to behavioural issues

Phase 3

The time period for phase 3 is a minimum of six weeks. This distance learning phase brings together the activities of the two previous phases.  Delegates will be required to relate the practical experiences and knowledge gained from phase 2 to their initial research, analysis, learning and experiences from phase 1, contextualising and applying the knowledge gained to their professional activities.
