The tutor is one of Britain's most highly qualified counsellors, having a wealth of experience in the discipline. This course is designed for professionals who support owners and carers of pets experiencing a pet or animal bereavement. This will include occupations such as veterinary, instructional, policing, and voluntary or welfare, and general counselling practice sectors. This distance learning programme includes self-study, analysis, synthesis and evaluation of information and theoretical perspectives, and two separate compulsory one hour online role play activities with the course tutor where the student demonstrates effective use of counselling skills within an ethical and professional framework. The distinct benefits of participating in this learning programme include a specific focus towards understanding the key elements of a supportive helping interaction and the ability to put counselling skills into practice when supporting bereaved pet owners and carers. The inclusion of simulated pet bereavement role plays activities with the course tutor offer the opportunity to practice the skills and understanding gained from the course, receiving feedback to enhance understanding and the application of these skills.
